Personal Goals Updates: February

Even though this is the shortest month of the year I feel that I have made some real progress towards a few of the goals I have set for myself.

Goal 1: I have been good about keeping up with reading. This month I have read four books (and am about half-way through another). Three of them are part of a graphic novel trilogy called March, which chronicles the story of John Lewis and the civil rights movement. It has been one of the most inspiring things I have read in a long time and has made me want to get out there and protest all the more. I feel pretty good about the amount of material I read this month, considering how crazy my work schedule has been (I now work six days a week – and believe me I am really feeling the stress, but apparently I love money more than self-respect or my sanity).

Goal 2: Still haven’t been good about this goal. I have outlined all of the chapters for a book I am working on. It’s nothing special. It’s mostly a bunch of personal essays, but even doing outlines I have found the work to be pretty cathartic. I hope to have a few first drafts of some of the chapters done by the summer.

Goal 3: Again, because of my work schedule I have let this goal fall by the wayside, but I am still determined to get this done.

Goal 4: Probably the only goal I have been really good about. While I have no plans for new in-country explorations, I have finalized plans to check another country off my list. I will give you a hint: It’s a Caribbean surprise, and mid-April I will be flying towards some warmer weather.

Goal 5: This is one I will probably be saving for closer to the end of the year, but believe me, I have been looking and planning.

Overall, I am happy with the progress I have made this month and I look forward to sharing my progress over the coming months.

Cheers!
