I am very excited to say that I am now able to cross another item off of my bucket list. I have been wanting to sponsor a child for a long time now and I decided to look into it a while back. There are many ways to sponsor a child and I encourage all to do so if you are able. It is very rewarding and I love knowing that I am able to help make a difference in the life of a child somewhere in the world.
I decided to sponsor a child from Guatemala (because I have a few personal connections to the country) and I am now sponsoring a boy named Luis. He is 7 years old and in the most recent letter I received from him, he told me he wanted to be a policeman. I have plans in the near future (hopefully this summer, but perhaps next) to visit him and his family in Guatemala and help teach at a school run by some family friends. I feel so blessed to be able to help out Luis and his family and, one again, I am so glad that I can blend my two passions – helping others and travel.
Congrats to you and Luis. Which organization did you end up going with?
I asked around between friends and family that I knew sponsored children and many of them had gone through children.org and say that they have really been happy with it, so I did end up going through them.
